Temporal trends of legacy and novel brominated flame retardants in sediments along the Rhône River corridor in France

چکیده

Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are anthropogenic compounds that ubiquitous in most manufactured goods. Few legacy BFRs have been recognised as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and prohibited since the 2000s. However, continue to be used despite growing concerns regarding their toxicity; they often referred novel (nBFRs). While environmental contamination due chlorinated POPs has extensively investigated, levels spatiotemporal trends of comparatively understudied. This study aims reconstruct temporal both at scale a river corridor. To this end, sediment cores were sampled from backwater areas four reaches along Rhône River. Age-depth models established for each them. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), (polybrominated diphenyl ethers - PBDEs, polybrominated PBBs hexabromocyclododecane HBCDDs) seven nBFRs quantified. Starting 1970s, decreasing trend was observed PCBs. Temporal revealed reached peak concentrations mid-1970s mid-2000s, stable by mid-2010s. Additionally, individual two orders magnitude lower than those BFRs. Their appeared environment 1970s 1980s. The these not decreased recent years. Thus, there is need comprehend sources, load, repartition environment, toxicity before reach hazardous levels.

Spatial and temporal trends in PCBs in sediment along the lower Rhône River, France.

Despite increasingly strict control of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) releases in France since the mid-1970s, PCB contamination of fish recently has emerged as a major concern in the lower Rhône River basin. We measured PCB concentrations in Rhône sediment to evaluate the effects of PCB releases from major urban and industrial areas, sediment redistribution by large floods, and regulatory contr...

Levels and trends of brominated flame retardants in the Arctic.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) containing two to seven bromines are ubiquitous in Arctic biotic and abiotic samples (from zooplankton to polar bears (Ursus maritimus) and humans; air, soil, sediments). The fully brominated decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209), hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) and polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) are also present in biotic and abi...

Spatial and temporal trends in brominated flame retardants in seabirds from the Pacific coast of Canada.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) are bioaccumulative flame retardants. PBDEs increased in many ecosystems during the late 20th century, but recently have declined in some environments. To examine trends in the northern Pacific, we analysed PBDEs, HBCDD and carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N) to account for dietary effects in archived eggs...

Temporal trends and spatial distributions of brominated flame retardants in archived fishes from the Great Lakes.

To explore the geographical distribution and temporal trends of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in the Great Lakes, lake trout from Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, and Ontario and walleye from Lake Erie, collected during the period of 1980-2000, were analyzed. The concentrations of fifteen PBDE congeners and one polybrominated biphenyl (PBB-153) were determined in each fish sample. Lake...
